Merthyr Mission Week – 6th to 13th March

The Holywell Community, during the week 6th – 13th March, will be reaching out from our confines of Abergavenny to support one of our associate members Father Thomas Bates (Assistant Curate in Merthyr Tydfil) in a Mission Week to help re-engage people with the core of our calling as to what it means to be church in Merthyr and to provide opportunities for a fresh awakening and to experience God’s grace.

The week starts at St David’s church on 6th of March at 6pm with a service to commission the week led by the Very Rev’d Gerwyn Capon, Dean of Llandaff and closes with a Thanksgiving Eucharist Service in Abercanaid Community School on the 13th March at 10:30, the Celebrant and Preacher being The Most Rev’d Dr Barry Morgan, Archbishop of Wales and Bishop of Llandaff.

During the week (Monday to Friday) there will be a daily rhythm of prayer; worship and communion that people can be involved with, details are as follows:

 

09:00 Morning Prayer followed by Breakfast – St Peter and St Paul Abercanaid (CF48 1TJ)

12:00 Midday Prayer – St David’s (CF47 8AF)

12.30 Dramatised Gospel story – St David’s

17:30 Evening Prayer – St Tydfil’s (CF47 8DP)

18:00 Holy Communion and daily reflection – St Tydfil’s

21:00 Compline followed by Cocoa – The Quar (CF47 8DP)

 

There will also be one off events during the week to come along to:

Monday 7th March

14:00 – Café Church – St David’s Church – an opportunity to meet in an informal environment for discussion, coffee and cake.

 

Tuesday 8th March

10:30 – 12:00 – Prayer Walk – Abercanaid Church to St David’s

14:00 – 15:30 – Prayer Walk – St David’s to The Quar.

 

Wednesday 9th March

14:00 – Bingo and Natter at Abercanaid Church – £1 fee – extra prizes and light refreshments will be available.

19:30 – The Quar – Film study evening – an evening of Bible study based on the film ‘Sister Act’.

 

Thursday 10th March

10:30 – The Quar – Parish Holy Communion for Healing followed by Lent Lunch.

13:00 – 15:00 – St David’s – Quiet Church – come and light a candle, talk to God, or talk to someone in person.

20:00 – The Quar – Talk: ‘The way we pray’

 

 Friday 11th March

17:30 Taize Evening Prayer at St. Tydfil’s Church led by Rev’d Jan Gould, Vicar of Ely.
