A day of calm…….before life gets busy for Advent

After doing some filming for a video to be released for Advent for the Church in Wales Centenary next year we spent the day ‘on retreat’ at Ty Mawr Convent as guests of the SSC Sisters.

On Advent Sunday evening Br Sebastian will read the penultimate lesson at the Advent Carol Service, in the morning’s All Age Worship we will have decorated the Advent Jesse Tree.

On the other Sundays in Advent we will be joining other singers from the Parish as we take the Christmas message to the town’s Residential Home for the Elderly. We will entertain our fellow singers to mince pies and mulled wine after the tour, to thank those who have helped us with this outreach programme.

In addition to helping host four Schools Christingles and Carol Concerts, we will also help Tenovus with their Light a life Evening and the Vison of Hope ex-offenders Charity with their Christmas celebration. Details of these events here

Other ways in which we are helping the out the Christmas message are:

  • Joining parishioners on a Beer and Carols ‘pub carol’ through the town. Singing Carols outside the Town’s Pubs
  • Loading 100 shoe boxes donated by parishioners on to a lorry destined for Eastern Europe and Pakistan and helping pack gifs for teenagers, who recently left care locally.
  • taking part in the Ecumenical walking scratch Nativity through the town

At 4pm on Christmas Eve we will lead the Parish Christingle Service and perform our Annual ‘panto style’ Nativity Play. A great service for families, many of who consider it the true start of Christmas.

…..and all these on top of our normal routine of prayers four times a day, leading All Age Worship , hosting a Parent & Toddler Group and continuing to acre for the Priory site.
